Who We Are

I started Enzo Chimneys & Stoves in 2022 after working as a fire fighter for three years. This gave me a deeper understanding of fire safety and ended up sparking my interest in chimneys and stoves. After finishing as a firefighter I decided to get my qualifications with the National Association of Chimney Sweeps (NACS) in Stafford where I got my  HETAS certifications. I because interested in chimneys and stoves because I realised that preventative measures of fire safety such as proper installation and procedures are much more of a long term solution and it allowed me to help people to enjoy their woodburning stoves safely.

After starting this business and working hard to get it going, Enzo Chimneys and Stoves now has a team of engineers that have over 10 years of combined experience. This includes people who are trained as chimney technicians, roofers, builders and qualified HETAS engineers. If you feel like we are able to help you then please do not hesitate to get in touch today!

FAQ

Q: What are the regulations for woodburner installation in the UK?

A: Woodburner installation in the UK must comply with building regulations. A qualified installer should carry out the installation, ensuring proper ventilation, flue system, and distance from combustible materials. It is essential to obtain a HETAS certificate, demonstrating compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Q: Do I need planning permission to install a woodburner?

A: In most cases, installing a woodburner does not require planning permission, as it is classified as a permitted development. However, if your property is a listed building or located in a conservation area, you may need to obtain consent. It is advisable to consult with your local planning authority or a professional installer to confirm the requirements.

Q: Can I install a woodburner myself?

A: While it is legally permissible to install a woodburner yourself, it is highly recommended to hire a qualified and registered professional. They possess the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure a safe and compliant installation. DIY installations may lead to issues with safety, efficiency, and compliance with building regulations.

Q: How often should I have my woodburner and chimney inspected and cleaned?

A: To ensure optimal performance and safety, it is recommended to have your woodburner and chimney inspected and cleaned at least once a year. Regular maintenance helps identify any issues, such as blockages or creosote buildup, which can lead to poor efficiency or chimney fires. A professional chimney sweep will provide thorough cleaning and inspection services to maintain the safety and functionality of your woodburner system.

Q: What are the common reasons for removing a chimney stack?

A: There are several reasons why homeowners may choose to remove a chimney stack:
Structural Issues: Over time, chimneys can develop cracks and other structural problems that pose a safety risk.
Leaks and Water Damage: Damaged chimneys can allow water to penetrate the home, causing leaks and water damage.
Unused Fireplace: In modern homes, many fireplaces are no longer in use, and removing the chimney stack can free up space and improve the home’s energy efficiency.
Aesthetic Reasons: Homeowners might want to change the look of their house, and removing the chimney can modernize its appearance.

Q: Is planning permission required to remove a chimney stack?

A: Whether you need planning permission depends on several factors:
Location: In most areas, you do not need planning permission if the work is internal. However, if you are altering the external appearance of the building, such as removing the chimney stack above the roofline, you may need permission.
Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas: If your property is a listed building or in a conservation area, you will likely need permission.
Local Regulations: Always check with your local council or planning authority as regulations can vary widely.

Q: What is the process for safely removing a chimney stack?

A: The removal of a chimney stack should always be done by a professional to ensure safety and structural integrity. The general steps include:
Assessment: A professional will assess the structure to determine the best removal method.
Support: Temporary support may be needed for the chimney breast and surrounding structure.
Dismantling: The chimney stack is carefully dismantled, starting from the top down, to prevent damage to the surrounding structure.
Waste Disposal: All debris is removed and properly disposed of according to local regulations.
Making Good: The roof and any internal spaces affected by the removal are repaired and finished to match the existing structure.
